Malaysian Grown Zakat Payment App TheNoor Expands Into Indonesia

Muslim zakat payment app, TheNoor (Noor Luminous Sdn Bhd) has joined forces with five Indonesian non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika, Yayasan Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia, Yayasan Panti Yatim Indonesia Al-Fajr, Yayasan Asar Humanity and Yayasan Rumah Zakat Indonesia in efforts to facilitate the digital charitable payments of Zakat, Wakaf, Infaq and Shadaqah through TheNoor mobile application.

As part of the agreement, the new partnership hopes to encourage more Indonesians to perform their ascribed charitable duties through a more holistic and integrated approach. TheNoor will facilitate the online collection of charitable payments on behalf of the 5 partners and ensure proper distribution to them. 

TheNoor app offers Muslims a more reliable, seamless and speedy method of making their alms payments throughout the year. TheNoor app also offers a transparent approach using digitised transactions, providing donors with the assurance that their contributions go to eligible beneficiaries, therefore giving them more peace of mind. With the in-app calculator function, donors will be able to calculate their donations and make payments instantaneously. 

Co-founder and chief executive officer, Mohd Izzairi Yamin said that TheNoor hopes to enable more Muslims around the world to achieve their almsgiving commitments through technology, transforming and amplifying their engagement with Islam.

The partnerships mark the Malaysian startup have a footprint in the Indonesian market and are part of their ongoing global expansion plans. In line with its strategy to capitalise on a fast-growing market, TheNoor’s expansion solidifies the achievement of its first milestone on its growth pipeline which comes after its successful fundraising round that closed in October 2022.

Etika Setiawanti, director of resources mobilisation of Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika shared: “The number of smartphone users in Indonesia is expected to reach 269 million by 2028. With more and more people turning to digitised solutions through mobile applications for enhanced security, speed and convenience, TheNoor will definitely simplify almsgiving for Indonesians especially with the calculation tool so they are rest assured that they are paying the correct amount in accordance with Indonesian Islamic laws.”

Since launched in January 2021, TheNoor has already gained nearly 6 million downloads on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, empowering over 2.8 million registered users. Aside from helping users achieve their spiritual commitment, the app brings them closer to their religion through continuous learning and exposure to the teachings of Islam through a more fresh, accessible, interactive and individualised method.
