MOHR States Nation’s Brain Drain Involves 1.86 Million Malaysians At Talentcorp Dialogue

Minister of Human Resources (MOHR) V. Sivakumar today (March 6), chaired an industry dialogue session which brought industry players and expatriates into a discussion to obtain feedback, views and suggestions from various captains of industry in an effort to improve the Malaysian talent ecosystem in line with goals ato strengthen national development.

The session, convened by TalentCorp, was held under the theme of ‘Malaysia MADANI: Addressing Challenges in the Talent Ecosystem’ was attended by 20 industry leaders from the private sector consisting of member from the Industry-Talent Council Advisory Council (InTAC) and the Malaysia Global Talent Advisory Group (MyLead).

“As the Minister responsible for overseeing the development of Malaysia’s labour market and talent ecosystem, I believe that we have an obligation to create an environment which fosters the value of innovation, cooperation and development. In the current situation, we face various challenges from the aspect of rapid technological progress, unemployment, skills mismatch, salary reservoir issues, discrimination, an aging workforce and social protection which now makes up the talent ecosystem,” he said.

He added brain drain, as one of the challenges, happens everywhere and not only faced by Malaysia where 5.5% of the population leave the country. Data showed that 1.86 million talented Malaysians have left to date with 1.13 million leaving for Singapore.

The dialogue session organised by TalentCorp Group Chief Executive Thomas Mathew is to continue the organisations focus on creating an ecosystem of talent and employees which are deemed to be in a good and fair condition.

Sivakumar added that the inter-industry dialogue is in line with the 6 pillars of Malaysia MADANI at which a two-hour discussion took place to:

– bridge the skills gap in coordinating education with industry needs;

– create jobs to increase economic growth; and

– increase public and private cooperation especially in efforts to cultivate TVET talent.

In line with the session’s objectives, the Minister called on the public to work together with the private sector to identify and address challenges as well find solutions which benefit thevarious industries, the economy and the people.

Also present at the session were Ministry of Human Resources Deputy Secretary General Muhd ​​Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar.
