Five Short Term Steps To Handle Congestion At CIQ: MB Johor

Five short-term measures are planned to deal with the problem of congestion at the country’s entrance at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (CIQ) Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Complex here, during peak hours.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that with more efficient operation at the maximum level, the problem of traffic congestion could not only be reduced, but will make people’s daily affairs easier.

He said among the measures included are that counters must operate at their maximum level during peak hours. Shift changes have to be done outside peak hours and the merger of zone A, B, C, and D car counters at BSI must be completed by next July at the latest.

“In addition, the lack of immigration staff and administrative issues such as OT (overtime work) need to be resolved immediately, while the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the Public Works Department (JKR) need to continue to monitor the work of concession companies in terms of the maintenance of public facilities in buildings and assets at BSI and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.

“However, I hear and understand the constraints experienced by the state Immigration Department and JIM. I believe that with the strategic and continuous cooperation between all parties, the issue of congestion on both routes between Johor and Singapore can be dealt with more effectively. God willing,” he said.

Onn Hafiz said this through a post on his official Facebook after inspecting the situation at CIQ BSI with Malaysia’s Deputy Director General of Immigration (Control) Datu Ken Anak Leben this morning.

Also present were State Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh and State JKR Director Abu Bakar Abd Aziz.
