Bursa Extends Gains At Midday On Bargain Hunting Of Blue Chips

Bursa Malaysia extended earlier gains on bargain hunting of blue chips to close the morning session on a firm note, in sync with the uptrend in regional bourses.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 7.42 points to 1,424.79 from 1,417.37 at Monday’s close. The barometer index opened 0.55 of a point better at 1,417.92 on Tuesday morning.

Gains in heavyweight stocks Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd lifted the composite index by a combined 5.138 points.

On the broader market, gainers led decliners 375 to 303, while 393 counters were unchanged, 1,171 untraded, and 23 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.43 billion units worth RM703.49 million.
