BornOil Continues Empowering Local Communities In The Remotest Region

Borneo Oil Berhad (BornOil), a leading conglomerate in East Malaysia, continues to make significant strides in supporting local businesses and generating employment opportunities – even in the most remote areas of Borneo.

The Group’s unwavering commitment to community well-being is evident as it sets its sights on assisting the Bario rice communities in Sarawak.

Sarawak’s Bario rice holds a revered position in the culinary world, known for its exceptional quality and cultural significance.

“Grown in the highlands of Sarawak by indigenous communities, Bario rice stands out with its distinct taste, aroma, and texture. It is meticulously cultivated using traditional methods passed down through generations, ensuring the utmost care and attention to detail in its growth,” said BornOil Executive Director Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee (pic above) in a statement.

The pristine air, high-altitude environment and fertile soil of the Bario region further contribute to the rice’s remarkable quality and flavour, making it a coveted treasure both in Sarawak and the broader culinary landscape. (Pic credit: Wikipedia)

“BornOil recognises the cultural value embedded within Bario rice, representing not just a staple food but also an embodiment of the rich heritage and deep connection between indigenous communities and their ancestral lands,” said Datuk Ambrose.

BornOil’s upcoming initiative follows the trailblazing success of the ‘Sabasco’ brand of hot sauce, launched two years ago.

Sabasco, renowned for its unique Momporok chili flavour, not only celebrates the distinct chili from Kunak, Sabah but also exemplifies BornOil’s dedication to supporting local communities.

By collaborating with Sugarbun Borneo Asian Food group, BornOil propelled Sabasco to nationwide acclaim, revitalising the chili farming industry and championing Kunak’s micro-farmers and their traditional cultivation practices.

“BornOil’s commitment to community empowerment extends beyond financial assistance, playing a vital role in uplifting entrepreneurs and rejuvenating struggling economies in even the most isolated corners of Borneo,” he said.

Building on the achievements of Sabasco, BornOil is now turning its attention to the Bario rice communities in Sarawak.

“These indigenous communities have diligently preserved the traditional cultivation of Bario rice for generations, and BornOil aims to provide comprehensive support that goes beyond securing successful harvests,” said Datuk Ambrose.

Datuk Ambrose’s vision for a brighter future is the driving force behind BornOil’s initiatives.

He passionately emphasised: “At BornOil, we firmly believe that our success is inseparable from the well-being of the communities in the East Malaysian states we operate in. This unwavering commitment drives us to give back and create a brighter future for everyone in Borneo.”

“This commitment fuels BornOil’s focus on sustainable development, social progress, and environmental stewardship.”

Recognising the profound connection between East Malaysian communities and the natural landscapes of Sabah and Sarawak, BornOil prioritises the preservation of the land and resources that have sustained these communities for centuries.

By actively engaging with communities and prioritising their well-being, BornOil ensures that economic growth goes hand-in-hand with environmental preservation. The company values long-term partnerships, empowering local voices, and fostering a sense of pride and ownership among the people.

BornOil’s steadfast commitment to fostering a prosperous and sustainable Borneo resonates as a beacon of hope for the region’s socio-economic progress.

By prioritising sustainable growth, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship, BornOil not only drives positive change but also sets an inspiring example for others to follow.

“BornOil strives to create a future where the well-being of communities and the preservation of natural landscapes are at the heart of East Malaysia’s progress,” concluded Datuk Ambrose.
