BMW Malaysia Introduces the BMW M 1000 R

The New BMW M 1000 R features a refined water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine built upon the foundation of the BMW S 1000 RR engine. Weighing 199kg when fully fuelled, it delivers exceptional power, capable of reaching up to 210hp. With a peak power output of 152kW at 13,750 rpm, the New BMW M 1000 R sets itself apart, boasting an extraordinary 33 kW (45hp) advantage over the BMW S 1000 R in terms of raw performance. Meanwhile its maximum torque of 113 Nm is generated at 11,000 rpm, compared to the BMW S 1000 R’s 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. Comparatively, the New BMW M 1000 R is also capable of achieving a higher maximum rev at 14,600 rpm. Increased rear wheel traction in all gears is also provided by a shorter secondary gear ratio, while the gear ratios of the 4th, 5th and 6th gears are shorter, which also benefits thrust and traction at the rear wheel.

Alongside the engine, the suspension and chassis of the New BMW M 1000 R have also been trimmed with performance orientation in mind. With the aluminium bridge frame as the centrepiece, it is also equipped with so-called closed cartridge inserts, separate hydraulic piston-cylinder systems. Another new feature is the additional adjustability of the fork’s spring base in conjunction with the standard Dynamic Damping Control (DDC). In addition, an elaborately milled-over handlebar clamp is also seen, alongside a black aluminium tubular handlebar that adopts a wider design than previously seen on the BMW S 1000 R, which is further furnished with “BMW M 1000 R” lettering. Also new are the handlebar end mirrors forged from aluminium, as well as fork legs that have also been modified and are now designed to accommodate the new M brake callipers. Another new element is the adjustable steering damper.

Besides the drive and suspension technology, the aerodynamics of the roadster has also been tuned to meet the model’s high-performance specifications. The New BMW M 1000 R is equipped with new front side M winglets, which provides additional downforce generated to allow for better stability at higher speeds. A wind deflector is correspondingly added to counter the increased aerodynamic resistance caused by the small additional frontal area and shape of the M winglets. These aerodynamic design considerations allow the rider to benefit from a lower wheelie tendency and thus accelerate earlier.

For optimum riding dynamics on the racetrack and in performance mode, the M brakes are also standard equipment on the New BMW M 1000 R, which itself is already equipped with very lightweight forged aluminium wheels as standard. Together, the braking system consists of two 320 mm brake discs of 5 mm thickness and black anodised aluminium brake disc carriers, as well as a radial hand brake pump. Accompanying this is an important innovation in the Brake Slide Assist function – especially helpful for racetrack riders, the function allows the rider to brake drift into corners with a constant slide.

The instrument cluster is a 6.5-inch TFT display which features an extended new red speed range rev counter and M animation upon start-up, corresponding to the design of the New BMW M 1000 R. Other standard equipment for the BMW M 1000 R include Titanium ESD, LiO battery, M forged wheels, M sports seat, M Endurance chain, Keyless Ride, engine spoiler, heated grips, cruise control, USB charging interface, M clutch lever and M brake lever, LED cornering light, TFL, DRC, passenger kit and pillion seat cover. Additionally included as standard are the shift assistant Pro, Pro riding modes and Dynamic Damping Control (DDC). The New BMW M 1000 R arrives in a sole Lightwhite / M Motorsport colour scheme.
