Gains In Banking Stocks Trim FBM KLCI’s Losses At Midday

Bursa Malaysia’s main index pared losses at midday as banking stocks were lifted by bargain hunters and the slightly improved sentiment following the passage of the US debt ceiling bill by a wide margin.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell by 1.88 points to 1,385.24 from 1,387.12 at Wednesday’s close.

The key index opened 3.82 points weaker at 1,383.30 on Thursday and moved between 1,378.58 and 1,386.41 throughout the morning session.

The broader market was negative with decliners surpassing advancers 441 to 270, while 363 counters were unchanged, 1,166 untraded and 27 others suspended.

Turnover stood at RM1.65 billion worth RM893.65 million.
