A Win-Win For Small Businesses

The Government plans to introduce a system that allows the public to apply for funds directly to the Government for small projects.

Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli announced that the people or small businesses can apply for provisions form the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) directly and the system is expected to be operational by the third week of June.

However, he said, the provision provided only involves small-scale projects such as dealing with blocked drains in residential areas.

“So, there is no need for all these layers anymore. This step is a win-win situation for everyone.”

Currently, Rafizi said, only elected representatives, district officials, and local authorities can apply for allocations from the government. The application is managed by the economic planning unit (EPU), which is regulated by the Prime Minister’s Department.

“However, I believe we need to open this process to everyone. People often ask their representatives to solve problems when the representatives do not have funds and need to apply on their behalf. So, the process before was layered,” he said.

Rafizi said that the ministry is in the final preparation process to ensure that the system runs smoothly.

The move would allow more small businesses to revive and obtain work while the people have now a means to cut red tape.
