Energy Transition And Urban Development

Tenaga Nasional Berhad has opened registration for the upcoming Energy Transition Conference, which will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center on 28 and 29 August 2023.

According to the utility giant, the conference will showcase the demands of the international community, which continues to seek a better quality of life through sustainable energy, transportation, and urban development, given two-thirds of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050.

The conference will bring local leaders, international experts, industry players, policymakers, and communities together to formulate solutions and strategies, stimulate meaningful changes, and accelerate an effective energy transition. TNB said the two-day conference is scheduled to be filled with brainstorming sessions and in-depth discussions on borderless policies, technologies, and capabilities required by the regional energy transition. Participants will share the need for sustainable technology solutions that align with the commitments of decarbonisation, digitisation, and enabling factors in urban development.

Incidentally, the initiative fits the current trend of enhancing liveability, promoting innovation, and reducing environmental impact while maximising shared economic and social benefits in urban areas. The conference is in line with the group’s effort to drive the Energy Transition agenda in Malaysia and extend it across the Asia Pacific by featuring sustainable customer-centric solutions, energy regulatory policies, and transition technologies toward a greener energy ecosystem.

TNB added it has outlined its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 by accelerating its energy transition drive including enhancing the value of the power generation business, expanding the Renewable Energy (RE) market, strengthening the national power grid, and developing the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
