Meta To Launch Threads, A Rival For Twitter

Meta Platforms is reportedly planning to launch a microblogging app called Threads shortly after Twitter executive chair Elon Musk implemented a temporary limit on the number of posts users can read on Twitter.

According to information found on Apple’s App Store, Threads, which is Instagram’s text-based conversation app, is set to be released on Thursday. The app will enable users to follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram and retain their existing usernames.

This launch comes in the wake of Twitter’s announcement of several restrictions on its platform, including the requirement of verification to use TweetDeck.

Elon Musk’s recent efforts to address data scraping have received criticism from Twitter users, and advertising experts believe these actions could undermine the authority of new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who assumed the role last month.
