Negeri Sembilan Drives Digital Technology Acceptance With 36 Out Of 255 PoPs Implemented: Fahmi

Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil recently inaugurated the South Zone Point of Presence (PoP) Project at SMK Dato’ Undang Haji Adnan, Kota, Rembau which provides fibre optic infrastructure near schools and government premises to ensure broadband access with faster speeds.

So far, a total of 36 PoPs have been successfully implemented in Negeri Sembilan out of a total of 255 PoPs covering Phase 1 and Phase 2. This initiative is to encourage the acceptance of digital technology among the people in addition to preparing the people with digital skills to realise the Digital Golden Decade.

Fahmi, who is on a two-day working visit to Negeri Sembilan also greeted community and local community leaders in the Kita MADANI program at the Negeri Sembilan level at Seri Batu 8 Open House, Labu.

The program aims to approach the people at all levels in nurturing the spirit of togetherness in addition to promoting government policies and the concept of CIVIL Malaysia.

The Kita MADANI program was also enlivened with the exhibition of various government and state agencies, the RAHMAH Sale, the anti-scam awareness campaign and the presentation of the Unity Package as well as donations to the asnaf group.

According to Fahmi, as many as 1,878 MADANI Communities have been established throughout the country and 108 of them are in Negeri Sembilan, involving 36 state assembly areas.

The MADANI community is a voluntary body consisting of various races administered by the Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia to channel accurate and authentic information as well as spread the initiatives implemented by the government to the grassroots level.

It also serves as a platform to clarify and address issues, defamation and fake news. In addition, various initiatives have been implemented at the ministry level to curb the spread of fake news and prevent people from becoming victims of online fraud.

For example, from July 2, 2023, short service message (SMS) containing a  Uniform Resource Locator (URL) will be blocked to prevent online fraud.

“I also want to urge the ladies and gentlemen to be alert to calls that falsely use the name of the ministry and to report to the police or CCID Scam Response Centre if you receive a suspicious call,” he said.

During his visit, Fahmi also visited the Felda Palong 11 Digital Economy Center (PEDi) which suffered damage due to the storm on 25 June 2023. Komunikasi Strategik dan Industri Kreatif (KKD) will channel an immediate financial assistance of RM50,000 for the purpose of repairs.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently in the process of conducting PEDi activities in temporary locations to ensure the local community enjoys the facilities.
