Melaka Requests Federal Government To Convert RM633 Million Loan To Grant

The Melaka State Government has requested that the Federal Government reconsider changing the status of the loan amounting to RM633.31 million to a grant form, considering that most of the loans were made for the purpose of basic, welfare and social needs of the people.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the loan with the Federal government was made as a source of allocation by the Begeri government for the purposes in question, which was signed from the 1970s to 2015.

He said that until now there are 50 outstanding loans with the remaining principal amounting to RM633.31 million, borrowed for the purpose of providing basic facilities such as water sources, low-cost public housing, the implementation of development projects such as Small and Medium Industries (SMI) projects, areas industrial and sports complex.

Therefore, the state government really hopes that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) can consider this application appropriately taking into account the financial capacity of the Melaka state government,” he said.

Additionally, the state government has also asked the federal government to channel an allocation of RM30 million to help promote Melaka Visit Year 2024 (TMM 2024) as the main agenda for tourism promotion at the domestic and international levels. Including an allocation of RM12 million to carry out a traffic study in conjunction with TMM2024,” he said.
