Speculation Ends, Amirudin Sworn As Selangor Menteri Besar

After days of speculation that the incumbent chief minister for Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudi Shari could be replaced, it is now official that he will be retained for a second term after being sworn in the Selangor Palace.

Amirudin, 43, took his oath of office at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah in Klang before the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, at about 11.20am.

Also present were the Tengku Permaisuri Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan chief successfully defended the Sungai Tua seat, previously known as Batu Caves, for a second term in the recent state election on August 12 with 19,678 total votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin (14,493) and independent G. Suman (430).

The Gombak MP was the assemblyman for the Batu Caves seat for two terms from 2008 prior to the change in name in 2013.

As part of the inauguration, Amirudin presented the ‘Aku Janji 10’ (10-point pledge).

This include upholding the sanctity of Islam while respecting other faiths; ensuring the sovereignty of the royal institution remains intact; guarding the institution against any denigration or external threats; preserving the unique status of the Malays, while also acknowledging the rights of other ethnic groups as defined by the Federal and Selangor State Constitution of 1959; discharging duties with full integrity and responsibility; and preventing any acts that might tarnish the dignity of his position.

Amirudin also emphasised his dedication to prioritising the welfare of the people, and ensuring that the broader interests and stability of the state are never compromised.

The Keadilan vice-president is a social science graduate from Universiti Putra Malaysia and is married with six children.
