Following the tragedy of the Elmina air crash that occurred at Lebuhraya Guthrie which killed 10 individuals including 6 passengers, 2 crew, and 2 civilians, SOCSO has confirmed that only 8 of the family will be entitled to compensation.
This comes after the body’s latest review found that out of the total, only 8 individuals have proper entitlement from their submission to SOCSO. Accordingly, 6 beneficiaries will receive the Pension Pension Benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 where their next of kin is eligible to receive Dependent’s Benefits under the Employee Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) while the other 2 will receive benefits under the Dependent’s Benefits, Self-Employed Social Security Scheme Act (Act 789) and Penakat Pension under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).
Of the other 2 victims, however, one was not a Socso contributor while another was a civil servant, hence they will not qualify for any compensation the body under Human Resources Ministry said. (this information was as of today 2pm)
Separately, PERKESO has also arranged for the payment of RM 2,000 in corpse management benefits to the heirs of 7 individuals. who was involved in this accident while the payment to another heir is still delayed due to waiting for a response
from the heir family.
