KAJ Development Sdn Bhd said the Melaka Gateway project has been given a second lease of life with the approved
guidelines and regulations from the State and Federal government.
The RM43 billion megaproject has gained traction as a result of the involvement of new shareholders and investors, as well as the formation of a new leadership team. Melaka Gateway’s infrastructure development has resumed with the construction of Melaka International Cruise Terminal. As the only international cruise jetty with exclusive operating rights from the Melaka State Government, KAJD’s MICT will be the sole entry point for international cruise and ferry traffic to Melaka.
Upon completion, MICT will be able to accommodate cruise ships, bringing an estimated 3.5 million tourists to Melaka Gateway each year. The arrival of these cruise ships is set to have a significant impact on Melaka’s development and boost tourism.
Transports Minister YB Anthony Loke’s commitment to facilitating the Melaka Gateway project is a positive step forward. By working closely with Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, there is a strong foundation for this project’s success. Their invaluable assistance in revitalizing this project has unquestionably instilled new strength into the project’s trajectory.
We recognize the enduring support of the local community with heartfelt gratitude, a cornerstone that has been critical in not only fueling the team’s inspiration but also maintaining the momentum of this project,” stated YB Dato’ Daing A. Malek Bin Daing A. Rahaman, Executive Chairman of KAJD.
The first island will serve as the focal point of the initial phase of development, with the goal of becoming a popular tourist destination. There will be elements of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a floating restaurant on the Cheng Ho Treasure Ship, the MICT, and a congregation of international festivals and celebrations.
With the project, we are now poised to shape a sustainable and promising future for all, with up to 45,000 new jobs expected to be created by 2032,” said Dato’ Mircle Yap, Strategic Development Director of KAJD.
