MOHR Rebuts News Portal’s Stigma Placed On Bangladeshi Workers

Making reference to a news article with regards to the hiring of foreign workers from Bangladesh which is being reported as worrying due to the high volume and if Malaysia is losing control, the Ministry of Human Resources has clarified the matter.

The Ministry said there seems to be a misconception surrounding the employment of foreign workers as it reflects negatively when it comes to the process and procedures of employing foreign workers. As such, it said there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the recruitment process and the allocation of quotas for foreign workers from Bangladesh.

The Ministry said it has always maintained an approach that the employment of foreign workers is subject to the principle of prioritising local workers and the demand from employers depending on their actual needs based on criteria determined by the Government according to sectors.’

In selecting workers and the source countries, employers determine based on the suitability to adapt to the nature of work of their respective industries. There will be no interference from the Government in this process. To date, Malaysia has 14 other source countries aside from Bangladesh for employers to choose in employing foreign workers.

As a trading nation, MOHR said the Government acknowledges the contribution of foreign workers in helping the growth and development of the nation’s economy.
