Govt Convinced US Customs To Withdraw WRO On Supermax

The Withhold Release Order imposed by the US Customs and Border Patrol on Supermax at the time was based on the evidence that shows the existence of 10 out of 11 indicators of forced labor practices in rubber glove product production operations by the company involved. Identified offenses include unlawful deduction of wages and accommodation facilities that are not conducive, it was here that the Ministry of Human Resources stepped in to work together with Supermax to sort out the issue.

This also came after the implementation of the Plan National Action on Forced Labor, ratification of Protocol 29 International Labor Organization, and labor law amendments. And had since performed a series of statutory inspections on the company which was necessary to ensure compliance with the law labor performed by the company, especially in the aspect of salary payment, compliance with working hours including overtime, contract compliance service, and provision of conducive accommodation. The result of the inspection found that the employer had implemented a remediation plan involving 1,957 foreign workers amounting to RM25.67 million.

In addition, MOHR has also held several engagement sessions with employers to discuss the improvement measures that have been and will be done by the company in dealing with this matter. Continuous efforts and initiatives taken by the company in addition to actions enforcement by the Ministry have been convincing the US CBP to withdraw the WRO on Supermax Corporation Bhd and its subsidiary (Glove Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Maxter Glove Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Maxwell Glove Manufacturing Bhd).

Accordingly, the company has been allowed to resume the export of gloves rubber to the United States market effective September.
