Two Mini Estates Set To Increase Sabah’s Rice Production

The Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) is carrying out two paddy mini estate projects in Beluran and Pitas in the effort to increase rice production and paddy grower’s income in Sabah.

LPP deputy director-general (Development) Amir Matamin said the project for two mini estates, covering 150 hectares funded by the 2021 and 2022 allocation aimed at helping paddy growers to have a more organised way of growing paddy.

“Both projects are still being carried out and under monitoring. We hope the allocation will step up the rice production and paddy grower’s income.

Amir said LPP is also involved in providing machinery and mechanisation services to help paddy growers increase their production.

This year, he said, LPP received 23 paddy planting machineries such as tractors for the cause.

“In line with 12th Malaysian Plan (12 MP), we are focusing on mechanisation and automation to help farmers in term of machineries.

“However, in Sabah, we are still facing irrigation issues. Nevertheless, the two programmes was supposed to help the rise of rice production in the state.

Amir added the allocation is being distributed to all states depending on the applications sent to LPP, and Sabah has received about 6 to 7 per cent of the total allocation that LPP received from the government annually.
