Swift Delivers Malaysia’s First Electric Prime Movers

Swift Haulage Berhad (Swift) launched its Green Logistics division, signifying a step by Swift towards sustainable and environmentally conscious logistics solutions.

Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), the event was officiated by Transport minister Loke Siew Fook, which also marked the handover of Malaysia’s first electric prime movers to Unilever Malaysia, a global leader in consumer goods.

Swift chief executive officer Loo Yong Hui emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, which is its guiding principle.

“We firmly believe in the triple bottom line, where companies work for People, Planet, and Profitability. Today, we are taking a monumental step towards a more sustainable future by launching our Green Logistics division and delivering Malaysia’s first electric prime movers to Unilever Malaysia.

“By adopting electric prime movers, we will significantly reduce carbon emissions, noise pollution, and dependency on fossil fuels. We are proud to be pioneers in Malaysia’s logistics industry by introducing cutting-edge technology and electric vehicles that will redefine the way goods are transported,” he said in a statement.

Loo said the electric prime movers, manufactured by Volvo, offers greater energy efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and a quieter operation, contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective logistics solution in the long run.

“We hope that with the launch of our dedicated Green Logistics division, we will facilitate more companies in their quest for more sustainable and environmentally-conscious logistics solutions.”

Meanwhile, Unilever Malaysia head of country Lenny Chuah said: “Unilever is proud to be the first company in Malaysia to adopt Swift’s electric prime movers. Our commitment to sustainability perfectly aligns with Swift’s vision for a greener and more sustainable future.”

The event was co-hosted by AmBank Group (Ambank) who financed Swift’s procurement of state-of-the-art electric prime movers.

Ambank chief executive officer Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Tahir said they are honoured to support Swift as it aligns seamlessly with AmBank’s commitment to driving sustainable innovation.

“By empowering such transformative initiatives, we pave the way for a greener future while fostering economic growth while supporting the government’s aspirations toward net zero carbon emission by 2050.”

The event marked the Malaysia haulier and leading integrated service provider as the first logistics player to adopt electric prime movers while Unilever became its first client to embrace the change to sustainable vehicle.

With a fleet of over 1,500 prime movers, the largest in Malaysia, Loo said shat sets Swift apart is not only their scale but also their commitment to procuring only electric prime movers or other trucks powered by renewable sources from 2030 onwards.

“Meanwhile, the new Green Logistics division represents a unified effort towards a more sustainable future by combining expertise, resources, and dedication, these entities are poised to drive positive change in the logistics industry,” he added.
