In a progressive move towards further establishing the Digital Economy as a strategic engine of growth for the country, the Malaysian Government, partnering with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), BSN Bank and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recently announced the MSME Digital Grant under the ‘Malaysia Madani’ initiative as part of Budget 2023.
“This collective effort aims to accelerate the digital transformation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia,” said MDEC Senior Vice President Gopi Ganesalingam (pic above).
“We at MDEC have joined forces with strategic Digital Partners to catalyse the digital leap for Malaysian MSMEs. The MSME Digital Grant ‘Malaysia Madani’ initiative stands as a testament to our collective commitment towards nurturing a digital-savvy business ecosystem and fuelling a resilient, inclusive and sustainable economy,” added Gopi.
“Together, we will chart a transformative journey, fostering digital adoption and innovation among MSMEs across the nation.”
Eligible MSMEs stand to gain a subsidy of up to 50%, with a maximum of RM5,000, generously provided by the Malaysian Government, to facilitate their adoption of digital technologies.
Building on this commitment, SiteGiant, a leading Malaysian e-commerce solution provider, has officially come on board as a key partner to this initiative. The company’s renowned proficiency in offering comprehensive digital solutions – from online store setups to payment integrations – positions it as an ideal partner to support MSMEs in their digital endeavours. This collaboration underscores the importance of private sector participation in national digitalisation efforts, more so post-pandemic with consumers’ inclination for online shopping having become more favourable with a greater appreciation for the roles of eCommerce and online businesses.
The ‘Malaysia Madani’ MSME Digital Grant, in essence, serves as an essential stepping stone for local businesses to thrive in the digital age.
With the combined expertise of MDEC, BSN Bank, MCMC and SiteGiant amongst its Digital Partners, Malaysian MSMEs are set to receive an unparalleled boost, equipped with the necessary tools and financial support to navigate the increasingly digital-centric global market. As these partnerships continue to evolve, the nation anticipates a more robust digital landscape, ultimately translating to more job opportunities and a burgeoning economy.
In the vibrant tapestry of Malaysia’s eCommerce landscape, SiteGiant, a prominent entity under the Commerce.Asia Group of Companies, emerges as a beacon of digital empowerment. With an expansive database housing 8.4 million SMEs, 52,000 active sellers from seven countries, and a commendable RM6.2 billion sales volume in 2022, it is evident why SiteGiant has earned its accolades as Malaysia’s premier eCommerce Omnichannel Platform.
MSMEs eager to benefit from the MSME Digital Grant MADANI initiative must satisfy several criteria. These include a majority ownership of at least 60% by Malaysians, a minimum of 6 months in operations, an annual turnover exceeding RM50,000, registration with institutions such as the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Local Authorities (PBT), or Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM), and a pristine record devoid of any prior digitalization matching grants.
To expedite the application process, MSMEs are advised to have certain documents at the ready. This documentation encompasses identity proofs of all directors, partners, or proprietors, pertinent business registration certificates, recent financial declarations such as audited accounts or a couple of months’ bank statements and relevant invoices from Digitalisation Partners.
When it comes to digital solutions for MSMEs, SiteGiant offers a wide range. Its Webstore Solution allows businesses to choose from an array of over 70 themes, each customizable to resonate with the brand’s ethos. Moreover, SiteGiant’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Solution serves as an all-encompassing hub, streamlining operations across various platforms like Lazada, Shopee and TikTok Shop.
On the retail front, SiteGiant’s integrated POS solution ensures harmony between offline and online sales, preventing stock discrepancies. Their Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a testament to operational efficiency, boasting the capacity to handle over 10,000 orders daily. Lastly, the OMO Mobile App by SiteGiant enriches the consumer journey, making shopping a more personalized and rewarding experience.
Lending his thoughts on this transformative partnership, Stanley Lim, SiteGiant’s Founder and CEO (pic) said: “Our endeavour since 2013 has been to spearhead eCommerce innovation. Having assisted over 10,000 SMEs in their digital journeys, we’re honoured to reinforce this initiative, urging SMEs to embrace this grant and the growth potential it brings with SiteGiant’s Omnichannel eCommerce Solutions.”

As we pave the way for Malaysian MSMEs into the digital realm, we anticipate bolstering the nation’s digital economy, shaping a brighter future for digital commerce.”
