Mavcom: MYAirline Has Till Tomorrow To Justify Why It Should Keep Its Air Service License

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) opened a formal investigation into MYAirline Sdn Bhd (MYAirline) and issued a show-cause letter to the company following the announcement of the suspension of operations on Oct 12.

Mavcom said the show-cause letter stated MYAirline’s failure to meet the requirements of the Air Service License (ASL), including the payment of salaries and employee benefits that have yet to be cleared.

In addition, the airline was ordered to submit a written explanation before Oct 27.

“Upon receiving MYAirline’s written explanation, Mavcom will assess whether it is eligible to remain an ASL holder, or whether MYAirline’s ASL should be suspended or cancelled pursuant to Section 43(1) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015 [Act 771].

“Mavcom will announce the latest information related to the investigation next week,” the statement read.

Mavcom is also investigating MYAirline for any possible breach of ASL terms.

Regarding refunds to affected users, Mavcom has been in contact with various agencies including Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to work on all possible options in obtaining the refund.

“Mavcom will notify any updates with refunds accordingly,” it said.

Meanwhile, Mavcom has set up a task force to investigate the refunds to affected passengers and make recommendations on the next steps.

“Although the existing licensing approval framework that applies to all new and existing licensees is comprehensive, the task force will also review the framework for any improvements,” the statement said.
