Ministry Warns Public Universities To Follow RM1,500 Fee Limit

Public universities in the country are warned to toe the line and followed the government’s decision to limit the registration fee up to RM1,500 starting January 2024.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said should university’s administration go against the decision, the ministry will take appropriate action.

“Nevertheless, I believe that as the order and decision from the government is crystal clear, universities would not defy the order. (If they didn’t follow), we will come after them,” he said at a press conference after officiating 2023 Graduate Labour Market Conference (PPKG) organised by the ministry and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Kuala Lumpur.

During the tabling of Budget 2024, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that starting next year, the registration fee for public universities must no longer exceed RM1,500.

He said this in line with the value of the Wang Pendahuluan Pinjaman (WPP) RM1,500 that was given out to eligible new students.
