Selangor To Fully Settle Debt Owed To Federal Govt Next Year

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today (Nov 10) said the state government is expected to fully settle its debt owed to the federal government next year.

He said 2024 is a lucky year for Selangor government as it will have an “excellent financial freedom”.

“This is because from the aspect of the state government’s debt liability with the federal government, the state currently has excellent financial freedom where it expects to fully repay the federal government debt next year,” he said while tabling Selangor’s Budget 2024 in Shah Alam this afternoon.

Amirudin said based on the latest record, the balance of the Selangor government debt owed to the Federal Government is RM19.2 million comprises of loan for water supply project and Skim Amanah Saham Selangor (Asas).

He added Selangor government’s debt for 2024 is also low, only involving the settling the balance of the last installment of Asas scheme totalling RM1.89 million, he said.

Meanwhile, the menteri besar said the balance of debt for water supply project of RM17.3 million, as stated in the global settlement agreement regarding the structuring of Selangor’s water industry, will be transferred to Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), after the documentation has been completed.

“With the advantage of financial freedom, the state government has proven its good governance and excellent financial resources management, without affecting its service in improving the lives of Selangor residents,” he said.
