RM725.7 Million Allocated For Flood Mitigation Project – Nik Nazmi

The government is allocating RM725.7 million to carry out flood mitigation project to resolve the ongoing problem near Putrajaya from Dengkil to Labohan Dagang areas, said Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

He said the project will be for the long term under the high-priority flood mitigation (TBBT) and will be implemented during the Sungai Langat Phase 1 and Sungai Langat Phase 2 to reduce the impact of floods for 120,000 residents in the area.

At the moment, flood mitigation project for Sungai Langat Phase 1 in the land acquisition phase and is expected to be completed by 2027, while Sungai Langat Phase 2 will commence on January 2024 and completed by 2030.

“For the time being, the frequency of irrigation system maintenance in the area will be increased by related authorities,” he said in a statement during a working visit to areas affected by flood as well as Sungai Semarang floodgate.

Last Nov 5, the water levels in few areas had risen due to heavy rain that lasted for an hour that affected areas including Kampung Sungai Buah, Kampung Jenderam Hilir, Kampung Cemperai, Kampung Seri Tanjung, Taman Delima, Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Melut, FT29/FT32 Intersection as well as Penternakan Ayamas Sdn Bhd quarters in Jalan Utama Taman Warisan Suria.

About 148 homes were inundated by floodwaters involving 395 affected residents who were relocated to temporary relocation centres (PPS) due to the flood with depth ranging from 0.2 and 0.5 metres.
