‘Don’t Go To Agents Or Middlemen For Dealings With NRD’ – DG

The public should go to any of 212 National Registration Department’s (NRD) branches or offices to get any dealings or advisory services as the department has no agents or middlemen representing them, said its director-general Zamri Misman.

Zamri said the department has identified a few accounts on social media platform that offered paid services to obtain documents issued by the department.

He said irresponsible parties was found manipulating social media platform to scam the public especially foreigners who just arrived in the country as they did not understand the official procedures to obtain identification documents in Malaysia.

The social media accounts are created using posters and official JPN logo that can be easily accessible on the internet.

Zamri said the posts on the accounts were only accessible for a short amount of time to avoid being caught by the authorities.

Besides issuing warning and reminder on scammer on NRD’s official social media, the department is actively monitoring, scouring and had spied on social media accounts or pages suspected to have used NRD’s name to deceive the public, he said.

“Social media users can take action by reporting any suspicious social media pages and those that violates the respective social media community guidelines to avoid more people becoming victims to the crime,” he added.

The public can also refer to the frequently asked questions (FAQ) page in NRD’s website at www.jpn.gov.my/my/soalan-lazim/soalan-lazim, call NRD at 03-88807077 or email to [email protected] for further information.
