APEC: ByteDance Briefs PM Anwar On Possible Investment In Data Centre

MITI MinisterTengku Zafrul in his X post has stated that the Prime Minister was informed by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, that it is considering investing in data centre facilities in Malaysia.

The Investment and Trade Minister will be meeting with Shou Zi Chew, Tiktok’s CEO, and Mrs. Helena Lersch, TikTok’s Vice President of Public Policy to follow up on the matter.

The APEC 2023 is turning out to be a fruitful investment trip for Malaysia with numerous investment opportunities cropping up. The data centre will feature ByteDance’s proprietary and industry-leading technology which is well known in the region that focuses on sustainability.

Malaysia has over 1 million TikTok sellers of these 96% are local sellers, Tengku Zafrul said he is confident that Tiktok’s investment in Malaysia will provide more opportunities and space for local SMEs to expand their businesses.

Yesterday a massive RM5.8 billion in investment was secured from EV battery manufacturer Enovix which is looking to expand its footprint in Malaysia to cater to the growing demand in the region.
