OCBC Chairman Makes Courtesy Call On Sarawak Premier

Chairman of OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad Mr Tan Ngiap Joo recently led a delegation of senior representatives to pay a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg to reaffirm the Group’s commitment to the State.

Joining the delegation were the State’s senior officials along with Mr Andrew Lee, Chairman of OCBC Group; Ms Helen Wong, CEO of OCBC Group; Mr Tan Chor Sen, CEO of OCBC Bank; Mr George Lee, Board Member of OCBC Bank; and Ms Tan Ai Chin, MD, Senior Banker & Head of Investment Banking, OCBC Malaysia.

The high-profile meeting by OCBC Bank was to reaffirm its commitment to support investments in projects that benefit the environment and community and promote the economic growth of Sarawak. Mr Tan Ngiap Joo, Chairman of OCBC Bank, said OCBC has a long history in Sarawak, being the first foreign bank to set foot in the State when its first branch was established in Kuching 75 years ago.

The bank recently was the lead arranger role in the state government’s RM15 billion Sukuk Programme and patronage and sponsorship towards sustainable related conferences that the Sarawak government oversees.

OCBC Malaysia comprises OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) and its wholly-owned subsidiary OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad (OCBC Al- Amin). Of OCBC Malaysia’s 38 branches nationwide, three are located in Sarawak – in Kuching (since 1948), Miri (since 2006) and Sibu (since 2015).
