Titijaya Land Berhad the project owner of the calamitous incident that took place in Penang, in a statement issued the group said it was devastated by the tragic incident that occurred involving foreign construction workers at a purpose-built logistics facility construction site owned by the Group in Barat Daya district Penang.
The group said it is currently working closely with the contractor, the relevant authorities, and medical personnel to ensure a swift and efficient search and rescue operation.
It added that it understands the profound impact this tragedy has on the families of the affected workers with the top priority now ibeing to provide support and assistance to the grieving families, and they request privacy and respect for the grieving families during this challenging time.
All works on the site have been suspended until further notice.
Datuk Lim Poh Yit, Group Managing Director of Titijaya Land Bhd, said “This is a very sad day for our company. We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of the construction workers. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased workers and our sincere concern for the injured. Our thoughts are with their families and the individuals impacted by this devastating incident. We have instructed the contractor to reach out to the families of the victims, and attend to those who have been hospitalised. We will extend our cooperation to them on this matter.
A thorough investigation into the incident will be conducted once the search and rescue operation is complete. If any human error or negligence is found to have contributed to this tragedy, we will take firm and decisive action. Updates on the investigation will be provided as new information becomes available.”
Titijaya is the developer of a logistics facility that is being constructed on a parcel of development land owned by the Group in Barat Daya, Penang. A third-party contractor was appointed by Titijaya to undertake the construction of this purpose-built logistics facility.
