Anwar Calls For Telco Industry Collaboration To Drive Digital Talent Development, Tech Advancements In Malaysia

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged telecommunications companies to collaborate in fostering specialised talent, driving advancements in technology-related job sectors, and propelling Malaysia’s digital transformation. Speaking at the PEDi Madani Conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Center, he underscored the crucial role of telecommunication firms in shaping the nation’s development and technology agenda.

Anwar called for a collective commitment from telecommunications companies to partner with PEDi (Digital Economy Centre), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Communications and Digital Ministry. He emphasised the necessity of prioritising skills improvement initiatives to enhance Malaysia’s position in the digital transformation landscape.

“I urge telecommunications firms to actively contribute to talent development, offering specific training to individuals to excel in emerging technology fields,” he stated. The event was attended by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, and MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

Anwar drew parallels with global corporations such as Infineon, Geely, Google, and Tesla, highlighting the demand for specialised expertise to drive companies to greater heights. He urged telecommunication companies to address this challenge by focusing on fields that contribute to nurturing expertise in new technology.

Additionally, the Prime Minister stressed the significance of PEDi as a crucial strategy for the country and announced plans for its expansion across every state assembly. He demonstrated commitment by allocating RM25 million in Budget 2024, with a willingness to increase the allocation to ensure the robust growth of PEDi.
