The system, information base and website of the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) were attacked by hackers, since last Saturday.
SOCSO when confirming the matter informed, the crisis management plan was activated on the same day, with the information technology and communication unit (ICT) mobilised for the purpose of system recovery.
It explained that the initial stage of the modus operandi of the cyber attack was identified as aiming to paralyze the entire SOCSO infrastructure used for day-to-day operations in a statement today.
“However, the success of SOCSO’s ICT unit in regaining control of the system eventually caused the hackers to change tactics by trying to launch a ‘character assassination’ attack against SOCSO’s image.
“SOCSO assures that this planned effort masterminded by hackers will not hinder our services to contributors, employers and the public.
“Therefore, all interest, compensation and disability pension payments to contributors and heirs involved will still be carried out according to the allocated period,” it said, today.
Commenting on the leakage of information displayed on the ‘dark web’ or dark websites, SOCSO’s preliminary research found that the validity of the data stolen by the hackers was highly doubtful, incomplete and missing.
The statement said it was because a cluster of stolen data had never been observed by SOCSO, since this agency was established in October 1971.
“This cyber attack against SOCSO is not the first time, rather a series of intrusions have already occurred, with the last one being last September and successfully contained.
“This act of irresponsible hackers is an attack that targets national interests, therefore all forensic results will be shared with the authorities in order to avoid similar episodes being repeated against other agencies,” it said.
