K-Berries Land In Malaysia: A Fresh Wave Of Korean Agricultural Excellence

In a momentous milestone for local industries and consumers alike, the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, together with the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, today introduced five premium varieties of Korean strawberries to the Malaysian market: Kuemsil, Sulhyang, King’s berry, Vitaberry, and Snowberry. The historic announcement marked the debut of these exceptional strawberries in Malaysia, setting new standards in quality and taste.

The announcement was made at an official ceremony at the Sunway Resort Hotel, attended by representatives from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation; members of the media; potential buyers and retailers; as well as Key Opinion Leaders and influencers. The event not only aimed to captivate the interest of key industry players locally but also to generate awareness and excitement among Malaysian consumers.

“Today, we take immense pride in bringing the exquisite flavours of premium Korean strawberries to discerning Malaysian palates as we foster cultural exchange through the internationally recognised language of food,” said Mr. Jang Jae Hyung, Managing Director of Korea Agro-Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, which is the Malaysian branch of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation.

“This historic moment signifies not only a breakthrough in the availability of premium Korean strawberries in Malaysia but also the continuation of our mission to enhance bilateral ties between our two countries. Malaysia has always been an integral trade partner to South Korea, and we believe that introducing these premium strawberries will not only satiate the taste buds of Malaysians but also deepen the appreciation for the diverse and exceptional offerings of Korean agricultural products,” he added.

The ceremony also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Korean Strawberry Export Integration Organisation (K-Berry), Euro-Atlantic Sdn Bhd and Khaishen Trading Sdn Bhd. This strategic agreement marks a collaborative effort to spearhead the expansion of premium Korean strawberries in the Malaysian market.

Exceptional flavours and unique characteristics

Each of the five premium strawberry varieties introduced today boasts distinct qualities that set them apart from other standard offerings in the market:

Kuemsil: Known as the “apple of the eye,” the Kuemsil variety of strawberries offers a distinct sweet taste, enriched by a subtle peach undertone that elevates its flavour profile. This variety embodies a perfect fusion of natural sweetness and nuanced hints, making it a captivating and memorable culinary experience.

Sulhyang: With a perfect harmony between sweetness and acidity, Sulhyang stands out for its impeccable juiciness, soft pulp, and a strikingly vibrant, bright red conical shape. This variety promises a symphony of flavors, where the interplay of sweet and tangy notes creates a truly delightful and memorable taste experience.

King’s berry: Resembling the monarch of strawberries, the King’s berry boasts a size that is twice as large as regular strawberries, offering an indulgent experience. Elevating its allure is a delightful hint of light peach fragrance, complemented by a soft and sweet texture that enhances the overall sensory delight of this regal fruit.

Vitaberry: Aptly named the “idol of strawberries”, this variety lives up to its name by presenting a vitamin C content, exceeding 30% of that found in regular strawberries. Beyond its delectable taste, Vitaberry emerges as a nutritious delight, offering a wholesome choice that seamlessly blends health benefits with indulgence.

Snowberry: A strawberry as delicate as a snowflake! Distinguished by its gentle pink exterior and a white, soft texture inside, the Snowberry earns its name from its snow-like appearance. Beyond its captivating appearance, this variety assures a delicate taste experience, combining subtle sweetness with a soft, luscious texture that transports the palate to a winter wonderland of flavours.

Commitment to agricultural excellence

The introduction of these premium Korean strawberries to Malaysia bears testament to the unwavering commitment of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation and the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs to promote agricultural excellence and elevate the global competitiveness of South Korean food products.

“Together with the government of South Korea, we are honoured to play this pivotal role in promoting K-Food in Malaysia. Naturally, we are also excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, brought about by this venture. We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to the Malaysian government, our partners, stakeholders, and the Malaysian community at large for their warm reception. We look forward to a future filled with shared culinary experiences, cultural enrichment, and lasting connections,” said Mr. Jang Jae Hyung.

The debut of premium Korean strawberries in Malaysia today marks a transformative moment for local industries and a significant stride in trade dynamics between the two countries. More significantly, consumers can now explore and appreciate the wider flavour profiles and distinctive characteristics in these premium strawberries, elevating the local gastronomic landscape. This breakthrough, therefore, not only promotes a surge in demand for high-quality produce but also opens avenues for mutually beneficial trade partnerships between South Korea and Malaysia.
