IRB Appoints Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin As New CEO

The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) announced the appointment of Datuk Abu Tariq bin Jamaluddin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Compliance) as the new Chief Executive Officer of IRB effective 17 December 2023.

He replaces Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Nizom bin Sairi whose service contract has expired on 16 December 2023.

Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Nizom bin Sairi, 61 years old, has served for 38 years at IRB and has contributed to the excellence of this organisation during his tenure.

Among his significant contributions is introducing the concept of AES (awareness, education and services) to strengthen the delivery of services at IRB. It aims to rebuild public trust in the country’s direct taxation system.

In addition, under the leadership of Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Nizom bin Sairi, IRB has recorded the achievement of the highest direct tax collection in the country’s history in 2022, at a figure of RM175.4 billion.

IRB also announced the appointment of Datuk Abu Tariq bin Jamaluddin as the new KPE IRB. He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honors (LLB. Hons) from the University of Malaya, started working at IRB on 15 March 1995 and has extensive experience in the field of direct taxation including legislation and tax compliance.

Before taking up the portfolio of Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Compliance), Datuk Abu Tariq bin Jamaluddin has also held several important positions at IRB including the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Policy) and Director of the Legal Department.
