MOH To Make Announcement On Covid-19 Status

The Ministry of Health will be making a live announcement today (18 Dec) on the Covid-19 status in the country, this comes as reports of cases rising exponentially.

Last week, Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan advised the public to wear masks during gatherings with friends and family as the 49th Epidemiological Week (ME49) from December 3-9 revealed a concerning surge, with 12,757 reported cases compared to 6,796 cases in ME48.

Dr Radzi called for a greater sense of urgency and caution in taking preventive measures, especially with celebrations that would see an increase in travel and gatherings.

“MOH anticipates an increase in Covid-19 cases as individuals travel to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, coupled with the potential for the spread of the virus during the upcoming school holidays starting from December 16.

Singapore has already issued notices asking its public to mask up at crowded areas after the island state saw spikes in cases as well.

Circuit breakers or lockdowns are not in the proposals as most citizens have been vaccinated, however a third booster shot could be something that health officials will be recommending.

Separately, rubber glove stocks have been seeing a rise in their share prices with Top Glove, Hartalega and Supermax all recording a sharp increase this week.
