KPJ Healthcare’s KWAN Empowers B40 Children With Annual Sunathon Programme

KPJ Healthcare Berhad, through its Corporate Responsibility initiative, Klinik Waqaf An-Nur (KWAN), has marked another milestone with its annual sunathon programme, benefiting over 100 children from the B40 communities in the Klang Valley region.

The sunathon programme was a key feature of the inaugural ‘Mini Karnival Komuniti Sihat’ (KaSIH) initiative, aligned with the year-end school holidays in December. The initiative aimed to bring joy and relief to B40 families, making circumcision accessible and affordable, ensuring that no child misses out on this significant tradition.

KWAN Chairman, Norhaizam Mohammad, expressed the organization’s commitment to “Care for Life,” highlighting the annual sunathon as a demonstration of their dedication to bridging healthcare gaps for B40 communities. The entire cost of the sunathon programme was covered by KPJ Healthcare Berhad through its Waqalah Zakat Fund.

Norhaizam, who also serves as the Chief Financial Officer of KPJ Healthcare, stated, “This programme is designed to equip families with knowledge about healthcare options, foster collaborative relationships with local mosques, and ultimately empower our community to prioritize well-being and preventive healthcare.”

The two-day programme, held on 16 and 17 December 2023, involved volunteers and medical professionals from KPJ Damansara, KPJ Selangor, and KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital.

Beyond providing complimentary circumcision services, the initiative embraced a holistic approach to well-being, offering forums for learning, complimentary health screenings, and distributing food boxes to 100 Asnaf families. Additionally, a mobile zakat counter provided convenient zakat options, courtesy of the Lembaga Zakat Selangor.

Through its extensive network of charity clinics, mobile clinics, and dialysis centers across Malaysia, KWAN continues to support the poor and underserved in urban communities.

The KWAN Sunathon Programme, initiated in 2015, has now benefited over 3,400 children, showcasing the organization’s commitment to community welfare and preventive healthcare.
