Newly Appointed MOHR Minister Takes Immediate Action

Newly appointed Human Resources Minister, Steven Sim has put in place 3 core the main thing he wants his ministry to focus on mainly to strengthen welfare, improve skills and increase the success (productivity) of employees.

The Minister has made key decisions from his first week of observation including instructing HRD Corp to not continue the “Skills Passport” project which has been delayed or more that a year. Steven said a new draft on the inaugural National Human Resources Policy will be prepared and will be the main guide in efforts to strengthen welfare, improve skills and increase employee success as well prepare a labor market capable of facing future challenges such as the development of digital technology, the agenda of an aging country, the green economy, job mismatch and the need for decent work in line with the Civil Economy framework

The Minister has also instructed MOHR to implement the Salary Policy pilot project immediately in an effort to enable workers earn a more dignified and appropriate salary this comes after the presentation of the Progressive Wage Policy announced in Parliament.

Among the actions done during his week, Steven has appointed a trade union activist, Chee Yeeh Ceeu, as Special Duties Officer. He is the General Treasurer of the National Union of Bank Employees Malaysia (NUBE) and General Council Member of the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) and a labour movement activist who has 15 years of active experience in the trade union movement. This appointment allowing closer involvement of workers in manufacturing policy at the Ministry level.

In closing, the Minister said the Ministry will look to optimise each department and agency ensuring the delivery of actions made for the good of the workers, the people in general and country.
