Penang Wants To Raise Water Tariff

Penang State Government has submitted a revision of the water tariff in the island to SPAN requesting to raise it, noting the last increase was back in 2015.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state owned water management company PBAPP has been subsidising water for domestic use in the tune of RM100 million annually. He said domestic users have been enjoying 2015 rate while non domestic had their tariff increased earlier this year.

This comes as the Federal government has also been looking at scaling back subsidy across all forms and moves into more target base as it feels those who can afford should not enjoy the subsidies.
