Diesel Shortage Issue Resolved, PETRONAS Mobilising Additional Supply Within 48 Hours: Minister

The issue of diesel supply disruption at pumps in Sarawak and across the country has been resolved with Petronas and they are to send in additional supply within 24 – 48 hours, said The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) today (Dec 27).

KPDN Minister Armizan Mohd Ali said the issue was resolved between KPDN, Ministry of Finance and Petronas and he had personally spoken to management of Petronas, whereby Petronas will deliver additional supplies within 24 to 48 hours.

Petronas is now required to submit a list of petrol stations involved in the delivery of additional supplies to enable comprehensive monitoring.

“We had to resolve this issue immediately to address the needs of consumers in the affected areas, Petronas and the oil companies involved have been asked to submit a full report and detailed documents on the cause of the resulting issue,” Armizan said.

It was reported by news dailies in Sarawak yesterday (Dec 26) that PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad said that several PETRONAS stations across the country are facing shortages of diesel stock and this issue is expected to continue until this Sunday, 31 December 2023.

PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad  has said in a statement that “We apologise for any inconvenience and would like to assure our customers that we are working with the authorities and stakeholders to minimize the disruption.”

Alternatively, the Sarawak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) advised consumers to obtain diesel fuel from Shell or PETROS petrol stations. The ministry also assured that it will always inspect and monitor all petrol stations and ask the public to report to them any activities of subsidized fuel abuse.
