Xiaomi Enters EV Market With SU7, Aims For World Top 5 Status

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, has officially revealed its inaugural electric vehicle (EV), marking a significant entry into the automotive industry.

The sedan, named SU7, is anticipated to leverage Xiaomi’s widely popular phone operating system, heralding a seamless integration of technology.

This unveiling comes amidst a challenging backdrop for the automotive sector in the world’s largest market, as China contends with overcapacity and diminishing demand, leading to a fierce pricing competition.

According to Reuters, Xiaomi’s Chief Executive, Lei Jun, expressed ambitious aspirations during the launch event, stating, “By working hard over the next 15 to 20 years, we will become one of the world’s top 5 automakers, striving to lift China’s overall automobile industry.”
