Maxis Extends Support To Flood-Affected Communities: Ensuring Connectivity, Aid

In the wake of widespread floods, Maxis reaffirms its commitment to supporting affected communities with a comprehensive approach covering network infrastructure, flood response, and essential aid.

Maxis prioritised ensuring dependable mobile connectivity in flood-affected regions. Tower sites are equipped with standby power generators, and a regional supply of portable generators and critical equipment is ready for rapid deployment to minimise disruptions and hasten on-site restoration.

ver 60 high-risk network sites nationwide have been strategically elevated based on historical flood data, preventing potential submersion. Maxis deploys mobile communications vehicles as mobile tower sites to enhance connectivity in flood-stricken areas.

Throughout 2023, Maxis has deployed free WiFi services at more than 20 flood relief centers across five states, including the recent deployment in Terengganu. This initiative aims to provide internet connectivity to affected families and emergency personnel.

Maxis also took a proactive stance by identifying high-risk network sites, enhancing their resilience. The company’s field response team is equipped with boats and drones to facilitate quicker network restoration and response efforts.

Personnel involved in flood response have undergone training by the Royal Marine Police Academy on safety and rescue operations.

Collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) focuses on implementing an early warning notification process for customers in affected areas.

Recognsing the importance of aiding communities in their recovery, Maxis contributes essential supplies. In collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the company delivered food supplies and distributed mobile SIM cards and top-ups to assist affected communities.

“Dependable connectivity is critical during floods, and we take our role seriously in ensuring essential connectivity to Malaysians through our nationwide network. We are committed to supporting the effective mobilization of emergency services on the ground and enabling people to stay connected with their loved ones in times of need,” emphasised Maxis Chief Network Officer, Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.

Notably, 200 families at the SK Gual Periok flood relief centre in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, received boxes of essential food supplies, and 1,500 Hotlink SIM cards and mobile top-ups were distributed throughout the state.

Maxis Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Mariam Bevi Batcha emphasised, “Equally important during flood incidents is ensuring that affected communities can bounce back and get back on their feet. In order to assist these communities, we contributed food supplies and mobile SIM cards and top-ups to support their recovery.”
