Hong Kong Toy Industry’s ASEAN Market Grows To 20% From Just 8% In 2021

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is looking to pick up pace in its exhibition industry activities or MICE for 2024 as it looks to hasten from the 2 years of near zero activities from this crucial economic driver for the island.

Kicking off 2024 in a grand style, HKTDC has combined three mega fairs into one massive event for its 50th rendition of the world renowned Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair together with 15th HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair and 22nd Hong Kong International Stationery & School Supplies Fair.

Held jointly by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the exhibition will be at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Jan 8- 11 bringing together 2,600 exhibitors who will showcase a wide range of toys, quality baby products and creative stationery.

Sophia Chong, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: “Over the five decades – from the first Toys Fair in 1975 to the golden 50th anniversary this year – we have turned “Made in Hong Kong” into a world-renowned label, and the name is now known as a guarantee for quality products at a good price.”

The three fairs draw over 2,600 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Asia, Europe and the US, presenting a large variety of innovative toys, quality baby products and creative stationery.

The ASEAN market has become a key export destination for the Hong Kong toy industry. Southeast Asia’s share of Hong Kong toy exports grew from 8.4% in 2021 to 17.8% in 2022. Between January and November last year, the figure even reached 20.4%.

Jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the Hong Kong International Stationery & School Supplies Fair will feature the latest school and office supplies, creative art supplies and gift stationery. The organisers continue to cooperate with renowned industry associations in different regions, including China Stationery and Sporting Goods Association, Malaysia Stationery Importers and Exporters Association and The Federation of Stationers and Booksellers Association of Malaysia.

After an increase of 27% on 2021, the total export value of global toys and games is estimated to have been flat in 2022, according to the International Trad Centre Centre. Grand View Research reported the global toys and games market size was estimated at USD 308.21 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 324.66 billion in 2023.
