No Additional Charges For 5G Access, Says Fahmi Fadzli

The Malaysian Minister of Communication, Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil on X, has announced that users will not face any additional fees or charges to access the 5G network.

According to Kosmo Online, Fahmi revealed that this decision was collectively agreed upon and communicated to him by all the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of telecommunication companies.

Minister Ahmad Fahmi emphasised that users will have various plan options and additional 5G services tailored to individual needs. He urged users to ensure that their devices are 5G-compatible.

“Previously, when we upgraded from 3G to 4G, there were no additional charges. Similarly, when transitioning from 4G to 5G, there should not be any extra fees. With this announcement, I encourage everyone to upgrade their telecommunication services to 5G,” he stated during a press conference on Call Quality Test at the Ministry of Communication.

Responding to queries about any additional charges for the 5G network that may have been imposed on users, Ahmad Fahmi left the decision to telecommunication company CEOs, stating that it is up to them to decide whether to reimburse users or not.

Additionally, Minister Ahmad Fahmi highlighted several priorities for the Ministry of Communication in the future. One key focus is extending internet coverage in Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA). He mentioned that all IPTA campuses will be the primary sites to achieve 100% connectivity nationwide, addressing issues such as outdoor coverage, in-building coverage, and Wi-Fi.

He informed that discussions with telecommunication companies and the management of the Ministry of Higher Education are underway to explore mechanisms for prompt solutions to these coverage-related challenges.
