NR Production Stretches Lower By 6.9% In Nov 2023 On Smallholders Shortfall: DOSM

Natural Rubber (NR) production decreased by 6.9 per cent in November 2023 (30,669 tonnes) as compared to October 2023 (32,944 tonnes).

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in its release today (Jan 12) dubbed the Monthly Rubber Statistics, November 2023 cited that year-on-year comparison showed that the production of NR increased by 9.3 per cent (November 2022: 28,048 tonnes).

Production of NR in November 2023 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (85.3%) as compared to estates sector (14.7%).

Chief Statistician Malaysia Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin said Monthly Rubber Statistics, Malaysia, November 2023 is a monthly publication that shows statistics on production, imports, exports, domestic consumption, stocks, prices, number of employees, salaries & wages and productivity of rubber estates based on Monthly Rubber Census conducted by the DOSM. These statistics are important indicators as invaluable inputs to researches, government agencies and policy makers in planning, monitoring and evaluating the performance of rubber industry in Malaysia.

Total stocks of NR in November 2023 increased by 13.2 per cent to 172,335 tonnes as compared to 152,196 tonnes in November 2023. Rubber processors factory contributed 89.8 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (10.1%) and rubber estates (0.1%).

Exports of Malaysia’s NR amounted to 51,437 tonnes in November 2023, decreased 8.9 per cent as against October 2023 (56,460 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 48.3 per cent of total exports in November 2023 followed by Germany (8.9%), Iran (5.7%), the United States of America (4.0%) and Pakistan (2.8%).

Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Concentrated Latex recorded an increase of 3.3 per cent (November 2023: 549.67 sen per kg; October 2023: 532.20 sen per kg) while Scrap increased by 2.4 per cent (November 2023: 562.24 sen per kg; October 2023: 548.84 sen per kg). Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R) increased between 1.0 per cent to 3.2 per cent.
