In a major development for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, 37 prominent transportation companies worldwide have submitted comprehensive Requests for Information (RFI), signaling heightened interest and commitment to the ambitious initiative.

MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd’s Chairman, Datuk Seri Fauzi Abdul Rahman, expressed confidence that several more industry leaders would join the fold by submitting their RFIs before the looming deadline.

Contrary to reports of Japanese firms withdrawing from the project, Fauzi clarified that Japanese transportation companies have not submitted RFIs. He expressed surprise at the alleged cancellation and revealed that some Japanese firms did participate in MyHSR’s initial briefing in July 2023.

“So I’m a bit puzzled and surprised when there are reports stating that Japanese firms have canceled their plans to be involved in the KL-Singapore HSR project when not a single Japanese firm has submitted an RFI for the HSR until now,” he stated.

The 37 global transportation giants submitting RFIs showcased their dedication not only to implementing the HSR project in Malaysia but also to enhancing the initial proposal with innovative concepts, leveraging the latest technology, and transparently stating the overall project costs.

During the preliminary briefing for the HSR project, Fauzi emphasised that private sector funding would wholly support the initiative. Anticipating additional RFIs from major global transportation firms, Fauzi’s revelation casts doubt on the reported withdrawal of Japanese firms, emphasising a robust international commitment to the KL-Singapore HSR venture.
