KPJ, Gentari Power Sustainable Healthcare, Launches EV Charging Stations

In a groundbreaking move towards environmental sustainability, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Malaysia’s largest private healthcare provider, has officially launched Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with Gentari Sdn. Bhd., a leading clean energy solutions provider.

The unveiling ceremony, held at Menara KPJ, the Group’s headquarters on Jalan Tun Razak, was graced by key figures including Dr. Nik Fawaz Nik Abdul Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of KPJ Healthcare, and Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Green Mobility Officer of Gentari. This momentous occasion solidifies the strategic alliance between the two entities, following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2023.

The initiative marked a significant milestone in the joint pursuit of green healthcare solutions, underscoring KPJ Healthcare’s commitment to environmentally-friendly practices.

The move aligned seamlessly with Malaysia’s broader vision for a sustainable future and positions KPJ Healthcare as a trailblazer in environmental stewardship, embracing responsible practices for the betterment of the planet.

The first phase of KPJ Healthcare’s EV charging network kicks off with the installation of four charging bays at Menara KPJ, featuring both Alternate Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) options.

This initial step is part of a broader rollout plan for Phase 1, which includes extending to nine other KPJ specialist hospitals across Malaysia, such as KPJ Penang, KPJ Tawakkal, KPJ Ampang Puteri, KPJ Selangor, KPJ Kajang, KPJ Klang, KPJ Seremban, KPJ Johor, and KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospitals.

The ambitious plan aims for a total of 32 charging points nationwide. Once regulatory approvals are obtained, these chargers will be made available to the public through the Setel mobile application, providing a seamless experience for users.

KPJ Healthcare Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Nik Fawaz Nik Abdul Aziz expressed, “The launch of our EV charging facilities is a strategic move towards building our sustainable healthcare ecosystem. Our collaboration with Gentari is instrumental in our journey to a greener future. By integrating green mobility and renewable energy solutions across our network of hospitals, we are accomplishing more than just setting new industry standards. We are actively reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing patient experience. This initiative symbolizes our strong commitment to leading the way in sustainable healthcare innovations.”

He added, “By 2025, our goal is to install more charging bays that will not only enhance Malaysia’s EV infrastructure but also actively contribute to the country’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”

Following the completion of Phase 1, Gentari will evaluate the potential expansion of EV charging installations to other hospitals within the KPJ Healthcare Group and explore opportunities for EV fleet leasing.

This strategic partnership between KPJ Healthcare and Gentari represents a significant leap towards reshaping the landscape of sustainable healthcare, driving innovations that promise a healthier, more sustainable environment for the community.
