Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today had lambasted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accusing the Unity Government of selective prosecution, following a probe on his son, businessman Mirzan Mahathir.

In his X account, @chedetofficial, the former two-time prime minister had (Jan 19) listed 18 items, with several claims in the strongly-worded post regarding Anwar and the government.

Mahathir, better known as Tun M, claimed that his son has been alleged and threatened that if he take any actions the prosecutor deemed contrary to the allegation, he will be imprisoned for five years.

“There is no mention of him to be brought to court. This is Reformasi. (While the current incumbent leaders were in the Opposition, they) talked about the tyranny of the government.

“When (they) become government, they behave worse than political foes. If (one offers) support, (one is a) friend. Trials can also be stopped,” he condemned.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it had summoned Mirzan to assist with an ongoing probe.

Mirzan arrived at its headquarters on Wednesday, and a notice order was reportedly delivered under Section 36(1)(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (MACC Act), which required him to declare all movable and immovable assets in his possession, whether inside or outside the country.

He had been given 30 days from the date of the notice to do so, MACC said in a statement.

According to news reports, the order is an extension of MACC’s investigation regarding the information in the Panama Papers as well as his business activities involving the sale and purchase of government-linked companies (GLCs).

The MACC had said it had been investigating entities named in the Pandora and Panama Papers since 2022.

In his X rant, Tun M also accused the Unity government for picking on his son, saying there are a lot of leaders in the incumbent government that were named in the Pandora Papers but has never been investigated or charged.

He claimed the names include Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Selayang MP William Leong Jee Keen and Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

“(These leaders) have not been investigated, let alone charged. There are also a few businessmen such as Lim Kok Thay, Mahmud Bekir, Tiong Hiew King, Larry Low Hock Ping, Datuk Yamani Hafez Tan Sri Musa and the late Tan Sri G Gnanalingam named in Pandora papers.

“This is Reformasi justice.”

Besides that, Tun M claimed that the Anwar has yet show his evidence on the latter’s claim of his abuse of power during his tenure as prime minister.

Last October, the High Court has reportedly denied Tun M’s bid for discovery of documents in a defamation lawsuit taken out against Anwar Ibrahim.

“Anwar accused me of pocketing billions of ringgit….I asked him to show me the evidence of his claims but he did not present it to me. I sue him for defaming me and asked for the evidence to be brought to court…one year had passed..no evidence shown.

“Finally, the evidence was said to be with Petronas…Petronas is under Anwar,” he claimed.
