MISC Adds Two More Assets: FSPO Unit, Eco-Friendly VLCC

Maritime conglomerate MISC Bhd welcomed two more assets to its current fleet, floating storage and offloading unit, FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, and Eagle Veracruz, its latest liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC), via the group’s petroleum arm.

Its president and group chief executive officer Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam expressed pride that the group has been able to open 2024 with two significant additions to MISC’s fleet – FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias and Eagle Veracruz.

“This symbolizes our focused and continuous commitment to supporting energy security and transition initiatives responsibly and sustainably globally,” he said.

Rajalingam said the addition of Eagle Veracrux showcases its strides in eco-friendly maritime solutions, aligning with  International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2025 Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III standards.

Eagle Ventura is among some of the most eco-friendly VLCCs available today.

“Currently, 15% of AET’s global petroleum fleet is powered by LNG dual-fuel technology, and growing. Whilst we continue to transition to the next generation of cleaner and near-zero-emission fuel technology, we continue to believe that LNG would still play a key role in the responsible transition,” he said.

Simultaneously, he said the group’s entry into the Brazilian energy market with a high-pressure subsea separation technology (HISEP)-ready vessel – FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias marks a strategic move into ultra-deepwater operations.

“(Additionally), our commitment to ensure responsible partnering in meeting the energy needs of the world, and managing societal greenhouse gases emissions in a responsible manner, is clearly exemplified through these latest additions to our fleet,” Rajalingam said.

He added: “As we embark on this purposeful journey into 2024, our teams at sea and shore are the driving energy behind our progress. We will continue to stay true to our aspirations of being a valued partner in a just and responsible global energy transition.”
