MAG To Add 12 New Aircrafts In 2024

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced plans to incorporate 12 new aircraft in 2024, marking a milestone for the national carrier. Among the notable additions is the eagerly awaited arrival of the first Airbus 330-900 (A330neo), scheduled for the third quarter of this year.

With a strategic focus on fleet expansion, MAG aimed to welcome four new aircraft this year, featuring eight Boeing 737-8 planes. This strategic move is geared towards supporting the group’s growth trajectory and enhancing its operational capacity.

The development followeds MAG’s proactive approach in securing its future fleet requirements. In August 2022, the group inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with industry giants Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and Avolon, outlining the acquisition of 20 A330neo aircraft slated for delivery until 2028. Notably, ten of these aircraft were directly procured from Airbus, while the remaining ten are slated for lease from Avolon.

MAG CEO, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail emphasised the A330neo’s pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency and contributing to environmental sustainability.

The aircraft is expected to deliver a commendable 25% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, aligning with MAG’s commitment to responsible aviation practices.

One of the noteworthy features of the A330neo included a revolutionary 1-2-1 configuration in the Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats.

This design introduced individual suites with privacy doors, prioritizing passenger comfort and practicality. The seat covers, adorned with traditional songket motifs, pay homage to Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, creating a unique blend of tradition and contemporary style.

Captain Izham Ismail underlined that Malaysia Airlines is poised to make aviation history by becoming a global leader in showcasing A330neo seats.

The aircraft will boast 297 seats, comprising 28 in Business Class, 269 in Economy Class, and 24 seats with additional legroom. Passengers can also expect an enhanced in-flight experience with WiFi connectivity, reflecting the airline’s commitment to ‘Malaysian Hospitality.’

The group anticipated the introduction of the first 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft in the third quarter of this year. This phased integration aims to gradually replace the existing A330ceo fleet, serving routes across Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East.

The move is not merely about expanding inventory but also introduces a groundbreaking first-class cabin, prioritizing safety, comfort, and overall customer satisfaction.

In parallel, MAG is set to reinforce its commitment to modernising its aircraft fleet by retrofitting six A350-900 aircraft starting in 2026. This initiative ensures consistent cabin standardization and promises a premium experience for passengers, aligning with the standards set by the new A330neo cabins.

As MAG steered towards these ambitious expansion plans, the aviation community awaits the unfolding of a new chapter for Malaysia Airlines, characterized by innovation, sustainability, and an elevated travel experience.
