New Mayor Appointed For PJ

Selangor has appointed Mohamad Zahri Samingon as the seventh mayor of Petaling Jaya with effect from 1 February. He replaced Mohd Azhan Md Amir who was appointed as deputy secretary general (management and development) at the Ministry of Higher Education.

Mohamad Zahri thanked the State Government for trusting him to lead the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council. He said togethe with the councilors assisted by MBPJ employees, he will help implement the State Government’s vision and mission, the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and other policies including the Klang Raya Valley in administrative matters. “In addition, I will ensure that Petaling Jaya’s resilience is strengthened, especially reducing the risk of flash floods and landslides as well as the competitive economic sector,” he added.

Earlier, Mohamad Zahri received the certificate of acceptance of office and read the pledge of integrity at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council Headquarters. The Tanjung Karang native previously held the position of deputy government secretary of the State Secretary’s Office for two years from 2021 until last January. He graduated with a Public Administration Degree with Honors from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and a Diploma in Public Management from the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
