Sime Darby Plantation Appoints EPF Global Equity Head Sharifah Sheila As Director

Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (SDP) appointed Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Global Equity head Sharifah Sheila Syed Muhamad as its non-independent and non-executive director effective today (Feb 5).

In a Bursa filing today, the group revealed that Sharifah Sheila a major shareholder of SDP, hence her non-independent directorship. She is also a EPF nominee.

“The Company is in compliance with Paragraph 15.02 of the Main Market Listing Requirements of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in view that 5 out of 10 of the Board of Directors are independent non-executive directors.”

The group said at EPF, Sharifah Sheila is responsible to lead the global equities team with investments in both developed and emerging markets across five regions.

She started her career in corporate finance at Amanah Merchant Bank Berhad and has over 25 years of working experience in fund management and research, it added.

“Prior to joining EPF in 2010, she has held various roles, including vice president, and equities fund manager at CIMB-Principal Asset Management Berhad (2006 to 2010), equities fund manager at Prudential Unit Trust Berhad (2002 to 2006).

“She was also Merchant Bankers Berhad Investment Banking at Commerce International assistant manager from 2001 to 2002; ABN Amro Asia Equity Research (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd investment analyst from 1997 to 2001.
