Increased Traffic Volume On Major Expressways As City Folks Embark On CNY Holiday Journey

As the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday approaches, major expressways across the country are experiencing a surge in traffic volume as city dwellers seize the opportunity for a well-deserved break and make their way back to their hometowns.

This morning, the North-South Expressway (PLUS) witnessed a notable increase in traffic, indicative of the mass exodus of holidaymakers hitting the roads. According to reports from the official account of XPLUS, northbound traffic is particularly slow-moving from Sungai Buloh to Rawang Selatan and Rawang Selatan to Rawang, with congestion also observed from Slim River to Sungkai.

Additionally, motorists traveling from Putrajaya to Bandar Gamuda Cove encountered delays following an accident at Kilometre 25, while congestion was reported from Skudai to Sedenak.

According to Bernama report, a spokesperson for the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM) reassured that traffic flow from the Klang Valley heading to the east coast remains manageable, with the only notable congestion occurring at Genting Sempah towards Bukit Tinggi due to an accident at Kilometer 42.5, resulting in the blockage of the left lane.

“Highway users are advised to plan their journey in advance, especially with the anticipated increase in traffic volume in the afternoon and evening,” the spokesperson emphasised.
